Set Quality and SEO Standards–and Keep Them

What’s your pet peeve, when it comes to content submissions? An aversion to certain big, “important”-sounding words? A horror of the misused apostrophe? A hard-and-fast rule, when it comes to search optimization? Skyword360 includes wonderful tools that do both you and your content creators a favor—it helps them evaluate their work according to your standards. So you never have to see a draft with the word “utilize” in it, again.

Content quality tools: search optimization, spelling and grammar, readability scores, and more

Optimize your search optimization process.

When your target audience goes to Google or Bing to search for information related to your brand, you want the results to show content that drives them to your website. Right? That, after all, is one big reason you go to the trouble of creating content.

Skyword’s SEO Scorecard feature helps you raise the visibility of content in search results by raising the SEO score of one to three keywords within the piece of content. All you have to do is determine the keywords and create Scorecard rules about how often, and where in the content, you would like them to appear. Contributors must reach a high SEO score for those keywords before they can submit a draft to you.

You can also create a blanket SEO policy for your entire program. For example, you could require contributors to use the main keyword in the title. (Go ahead—you can check that SEO box now.)

Never use “it’s” wrong, again

Let’s face it—few things are more embarrassing than publishing a great article, only to have someone in your audience point out an obvious typo. When you’re publishing a lot of content, it can be easy to overlook the little things, but quality is so important—especially when you’re up against a heavily saturated market.

The language-specific spelling and grammar tools in Skyword360 offer an extra check, presented in a simple, clear way. Spelling suggestions show up in red, style suggestions in blue, and grammar alerts in green.

Content your audience can read easily

Who are you trying to reach? Corporate executives, or pop culture enthusiasts? College professors, or high school athletes? Even the most educated among us appreciate simple, easy-to-read language when we’re trying to grasp a new subject. Truth be told, many executives don’t have the patience or time for corporate jargon or long, complex sentence structures.

The Skyword readability score gives you an approximation of the reading level of your content. It’s determined by the Flesch-Kincaid index, which measures word length and sentence length, primarily. Higher scores mark material that is easier to read. Lower scores indicate more difficulty. Let your contributors know where your audience falls on the spectrum, and the rest is up to them.

Receive alerts when you repeat yourself—or someone else

We certainly hope we don’t have any plagiarists in our pool of writers, but it’s always a good idea to make absolutely sure. If a content submission seems too close for comfort to a previously published article, you need to know. It’s also a good idea, when you’re managing a large content program, to check and see that you’re constantly creating unique, original content—since it can sometimes be easy to repeat yourself.

Skyword offers two features that help you address these issues. Similar Content Detection compares a content item’s keyword, title, and summary to articles you have in progress or ones you’ve recently published. Duplicate Content Detection shows when a submission contains content that exactly matches any existing page on the web. When either tool detects a match, it displays a warning and links to the articles in question, so you can compare them.
